Boson StoryDraft 2 Locations:Location: Island of Canesia. Republic of Atania: small state, situated in the northern part of the island, occupying about 50000 sq/km (one quarter) of it and having about 1-2 million inhabitants. Republic of Kangalo: the other state on Canesia. It's area is about 150000 sq km, it's situated in the central and southern part of Canesia and it's population is about 4-5 million people. Both Atania and Kangalo are quite poor countries. The area has some oil locations though, so both countries are exporting oil, but not as much as they'd need to improve their economy. Kangalo is a military-state, a bit like North-Korea: it spends large amounts of money on military stuff and doesn't care about people that much. Atania on the other hand cooperates with UN to improve it's economy and people's condition. Detailed information about the sides in StorySides Conflict timeline:
Questions/TODO:
Just some ideas: comments and flames to d.mills at tiscali.fr
AB: I like this idea of keeping the US out. However I think it should get slightly modified, as the same reasoning could be used by Kangalo against the UN. What if Kangalo had an ally that helps keeping the US out, but does not do so against the UN? Possibly China, see today's situation with Taiwan.
Shade: You could use the 'Iran Example'... Cruse Missiles > Aircraft Carriers
Some suggestions: Start the gameplay at the beginning of the timeline, rather than the end. You could start with easy missions such as escort civies, resource consolidation. Then you could build the refinery and learn the basics of resource gathering (only to have it taken over - those Kangalos!). Some evacuation missions where you need to move some VIPs or even regular civilians fleeing the border. Then you get the traditional "this is a barracks - build one and produce x amount of unit y" type missions as an introduction to the basic military units. Atania doesn't have much experience with training military. We're at 22/05/08 now, so the UN shows up and starts helping. Maybe you get to use the UN units for some covert ops. With this introduction to the game, its units and buildings, the player is now more "in the game" and better able to play. I would rather like the game start at the end of this timeline. I consider myself to be at least a mediocre rts player and thus I wouldn't like to be forced to play through very easy tutorial missions. Felix already started a separate tutorial campaign (which follows this storyline but takes place before the main campaign), so that should suit much better for learning purposes - Rivo
As for keeping the USA's aircraft carriers out: they have 12 aircraft carriers, of which 3 are usually deployed. Put one for India / Pakistan, one for North Korea, one on training exercises, but expected to be 'en route'. It will stop at some naval base for resupply, then arrive in x days (but by then most of the game will be over). This could be used as an end-of-game plot element, either as the end of the game (yay, the americans arrive and save the day), or if you're feeling controversial, the US arrives, fights off (most of) the Kangalos, and starts setting themselves up... replacing the UN, putting security forces around the oilfields and generally taking over the island's resources... Or, park the third carrier by some other hotspot like Jerusalem (or make up another hotspot) so it, too, is engaged and unable to help. nathangray Yeah that would be quite fine I think. Another idea I had a couple days ago would be to simply say that Kangalo has strong anti-air defences along the coastline so US doesn't want to risk sending it's aircraft there - Rivo
An out there idea would be to have the US either openly or secretly supporting one of the nations. Basically their hands are tied and they cant visibly help either for political reasons. They have been known to work outside the UN before. Just a thought. |
